Best Place to Visit in Malvan – Tarkarli – Malvan Attractions
Sindhudurg Fort is a famous fort situated near Malvan Jetty in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra, India. This fort was built by theMaratha King, Shivaji, himself under his supervision and guidance. In fact, this fort was the naval headquarter during the ruler-ship of Marathas. This fort is situated on an islet, Kurte Island and is almost half a km away from the Sindhudurg District’s Malvan Jetty town in the Konkan area of Maharashtra near south of Mumbai and is surrounded by the great Arabian Sea.
Sindhudurg Fort itself is the main attraction. Along with the architectural rich fort, there are temples also to visit there which are a big attraction for tourists. These temples are dedicated to Goddess Bhavani, God Hanuman and Jarimari. Along with the holy shrines, there is also a popular temple which is devoted to Shivaji.
Apart from fort building and temples, there are 3 sweet water wells and few tanks which are also available in the fort premises. Underwater sports are also available for tourists here. The fort also possesses a coconut tree for which people around the world make a visit here since this is the world’s only coconut tree that has branches and provides fruits. Another fort attraction is an underground tunnel which is supposed to be used by the ladies in case of enemy attack in ancient times. This tunnel, however, was closed partially by the British East India Company. This tunnel, as per legends, goes almost 12 km beneath the Arabian Sea.
This is one of the most commercially active beaches in the Konkan. It is buzzing with life at the jetty where most of the fishermen anchor their boats of various dimensions and colors. There are a few bars and restaurants on the beach unlike most other seashores on theSindhudurg coast. It is one of the friendliest atmospheres alive with banter among the locals.
This beach is not a place for relaxation, however, it is close to the city centre and perhaps the most accessible beach in the area. Another promising forthcoming attraction here is a one of its kind marine park in Asia. The government has proposed the marine park since 2000, but there has not been any action on it yet. The area of Malvan is a fortified island on the coastal reef. Coral patches have been recorded in the interstitial regions around the Sindhudurg fort. Most of these marine flora and fauna from the inter-tidal area is exposed during any low tide. So keep an eye out for a great opportunity for scuba diving. However, for now the best attraction on this beach remains to be the Sindhudurga fort.

A confluence of the Karli River flowing into the Arabian Sea. This point marks the southern most tip of the Malvantaluka. The beach lures to the tourists by its stunning white sand and beautiful blue water lagoon, thus an idealist spot forswimming , sunbathing and pick nicking. Flock of local sea birds add to the beauty of serene surroundings by playing with the sea waters. Jay Ganesh Temple
